Welcome, Bienvenida, Bienvenue, Bém Vindos, Swagatham Incarnation of Our Lord began due to the tireless efforts of one man, Edward C. Hartman, who kept insisting to the Archbishop of Philadelphia that Olney needed a Catholic parish. Finally, in April 1900, Archbishop Ryan established one and named it St. Justin’s. The new parish would compose the northern half of St. Veronica’s from Bristol Street to Cheltenham Avenue. The first Mass was said in a home at the SW Corner of Second Street Pike and Tabor Road. Shortly afterward, the founding pastor, Fr. Patrick H. Fogarty, changed the name of the Church from St. Justin’s to Incarnation of Our Lord. Our present location at Fifth and Lindley was purchased in August 1901 for just $22,000! Since then, we have outgrown our small wooden chapel of twelve pews and even our “school basement” Church. Our present Church, completed in time for Christmas morning Mass in 1930, is today the spiritual home to a Catholic community from all over the world—a community that worships God in Creole, English, Malayalam, Portuguese and Spanish. May God who has begun the work in us bring it to fulfillment. |
