SERVER NOTES

Posture

When you are seated, the proper posture is hands on your knees, back straight.  Do not slouch in your seat.  Your posture reflects on your home training and the respect you have for the Mass.  It is not the posture you would assume while watching a football game.  Your posture at Mass is seen by all in church and affects their worship.  The servers reverence should affect the people in a positive way.

Washing of hands

Most servers have picked up on the one server handling the dish and cruet, and the other the towel. Server with water and dish should be nearest the altar.

Sign of Peace

During this time of the flu, it is encouraged that a bow be made to others instead of a handshake.  This is OK anytime. Other gestures may be used. Do not feel obligated to use a handshake and be aware if the other person is not offering a hand.  There is anti bacterial soap in the sacristy that can be used before and after Mass. It is possible that the priest may announce the sign of peace yet not come over to give it.

Purifying Chalice

After Communion one server will bring up the water cruet and pour water into the chalice when the priest offers it.  As the priest finishes giving Communion and returns to the altar, the server who administered the water at the Offertory, will get up and go over to get the water cruet, then go up to the first step and pour water into the chalice until the priest raises the chalice slightly.  Return the water cruet to the table. Wait while the priest dries the chalice, then go up and bring down the chalice to the table. Always use two hands to carry the chalice, one hand on the top, the other on underneath the cup.

Presenting Cruets

Always present the cruets with the handle toward the priest (or deacon) so that he may take the cruet by the handle. Hold the cruet by the bottom in the right hand.

Holding the Book

At the beginning of Mass the book bearer will pick up the missal from the bench and stand in front of the celebrant to his left.  Hold the book with both hands at the bottom with the pages opening to your left.  Stand to the left side of the priest.

After the homily assume the same stance when the priest rises.  Do not hand the book to the priest, but hold it in from of you with your hands at the bottom of the book and the top edge leaning against your chest.

Mass attendance

Please do your best to be at church 15 minutes ahead of time when you are serving Mass.  If for some reason you are unable to make a commitment, try to get a sub. If unsuccessful, let Fr. Piñero know so that he can look for someone that day.   You are always welcome to stop in the sacristy before Mass when you are not scheduled to check to see if a server is needed.

SATURDAY MASS

5:15 pm

We have a team that can do every other Saturday. Please let me know if you could do a Saturday so that we could cover that Mass full time.
